फलितज्योतिष का विकास पुराणों में उध्दत व्यास - वशिष्ठ - नारदादि दैवज्ञों के वचनो के आधार पर ही हुआ है I प्रस्तुत ग्रन्थ "जातकालंकार " श्रीमदभागतोक्त जो जातक सम्बन्धी फल है उन्ही के आधार पर निर्मित है l इस विषय में ग्रंथकार की  भी स्पष्टोक्ति है I यह ग्रन्थ सात अध्यायों में है जिसमे छ: अध्याय ज्योतिष सम्बन्धि और सातवाँ वंश वर्णन का है I इन सातो अध्यायों में श्लोको की संख्या क्रमश : ११-३७-३३-३-२२-८ और ४ है I इन सब का योग ११८ होता है जबकि ग्रंथकार ने छठे अध्याय में ११० श्लोक ही बताया है I संभवत: ग्रन्थ में जो ज्योतिष सम्बन्धि श्लोक नहीं है
